Due to your patience and consideration, we have completed immunizing our highest risk infants and toddlers. Starting Wednesday November 18, Lake Shore Pediatrics invites you to call and schedule your 6-35 month old child for his/her H1N1 vaccination. Supplies are still limited, and will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Hopefully we will be receiving additional vaccine in the near future.

I had my 9mos old child vaccinated at the Barrington High clinic. Does he need an additional H1n1 a month after the initial vaccine?
Yes, all children younger than 10 years old need 2 doses of the vaccine, with a minimum interval of 3-4 weeks between doses. It doesn’t matter where/at which clinic you receive the second dose.
If my 6 month old has not gotten any flu shot yet, should she have her regular flu shot first or can she get both?
She can (and we recommend) that she gets both vaccines at the same time. The H1N1 vaccine is just a flu strain that wasn’t ready to be combined with the regular seasonal flu shots (which have 3 strains in them). There is no preference as to which vaccine she gets first, and it’s fine to give them at the same visit.
Is it truly safe to vaccinate my 8.5 month old son and what are the side effects – short term and long term. I can’t make up my mind whether to get the vaccine for him or not.
Yes, it is very safe to vaccinate against the H1N1 influenza virus. This flu shot was made exactly like we’ve been making flu shots for the past 60 years. Initial side effects are of course mild pain and possibly a fever within 24 hrs of receiving the vaccine. Long term side effects are rare, and can be found here: http://www.immunize.org/vis/h1n1_inactiveflu.pdf
Please make an appointment to further discuss this vaccine if you still have questions. Thanks.
