Limited H1N1 Vaccine available

On Friday, November 13th, Lake Shore Pediatrics received a very limited supply of the H1N1 vaccine.  However, the Lake County Health Department has only provided us with the vaccine dosed specifically for infants and toddlers, ages 6-35 months. We only have a few doses per office, and our initial doses must first be allocated to those “high-risk” children who present the highest risk of complication from H1N1 infection.

We will begin accepting appointments for these shots starting Monday November 16th, at 1pm. Your child’s chart will be reviewed to ensure that your child qualifies for these initial vaccine doses.  Hopefully we will soon be able to expand these vaccinations to all our patients, but we have no control over vaccine supply or arrival dates.

  1. My family and I attended the Lake County clinic held in Highland Park on Friday, November 13th.
We were all able to get the H1N1 vaccine except for my daughter who is between 3-4 year old. She will be 4
years old in January 2010. I was disappointed she could not get the vaccine and do not understand the reason why.
I would really like for my daughter to get the H1N1 vaccine. Do I have to wait until she turns 4?
Thank you for your time and your commitment to the patients at Lake Shore.

  2. There are different manufacturers for the H1N1 vaccine, so I assume that the clinic was using a vaccine not licensed/allowed for children under 4 years old. Try other clinics when they become available, and again, we hope to have vaccine for her soon. The Lake County Health Department website has clinic information at: http://www.lakecountyil.gov/Health/H1N1.htm
